Adam’s Take: Backlash 2018

“Adam’s Take: Backlash 2018” comes from Contributor “Alcoholic” Adam Pokrajac. Pokrajac routinely provides the cold hard truth on Australian Wrestling with a heavy focus on New South Wales. He believes this is the most under appreciated wrestling scene in the world today and he reviews it with a beer in his hand.

With Backlash this weekend, Alcoholic Adam has taken it upon himself to rebook arguably the worst Backlash . . . Backlash 2018.

Some of this has been flushed out in previous articles pertaining to Adam’s Universe of booking, but he fills in the blanks with this article.

So, grab a cold one and enjoy the rebooking.

The Miz v Seth Rollins (C) (Intercontinental Championship)

  • One of the best matches of the year. This match continues some of the most prestigious years of the Intercontinental championship.
  • Rollins retains with a curb stomp.
  • Why change a thing when we have a match of the year contender?

Nia Jax & Alexa Bliss v Sasha Banks (C) & Bayley Tornado Tag

  • This match came about with Nia winning the women’s battle royal, and Sasha taking the title off Alexa Bliss at Wrestlemania.
  • The whole time, Nia and Sasha have tried to have a singles match, but it always ends up with their partners running in.
  • For the Finish Nia pins Bayley.

Braun Strowman v Bobby Lashley

  • For those who have checked out Adam’s previous fantasy booking – we have a similar style match.
  • Just a massive hoss fight. For the build, Lashley wants to the biggest challenger and with Braun winning the Andre The Giant Battle Royal, Lashley views Braun as the biggest threat. To establish dominance, Lashley wants to take down Braun.
  • Lashley wins after escaping Braun’s running power slam and hitting a running power slam of his own . . .  following up with a spear.

Peyton Royce v Charlotte v Billie Kay (no.1 contenders)

  • The Iiconics forced a no contest between Asuka & Charlotte on the Smackdown after Wrestlemania, which got us into this triple threat no.1 contenders match.
  • Peyton covers Charlotte after hitting the fisherman suplex.

Daniel Bryan v Randy Orton

  • Orton is sick of the Daniel Bryan love.
  • Orton is obsessed to take out Bryan for good and this is the start of Randy taking out all the fan favorites (instead of Jeff Hardy).
  • Bryan wins the match with a running knee.
  • Post Match – The Miz attacks Bryan and hits the skull crushing finale.
  • Orton looks to Punt Bryan but Kane makes the save setting up a tag match for a later date.

Carmella v Asuka (C) (Smackdown Women’s)

  • In this universe, Asuka continued her winning streak by defeating Charlotte at Wrestlemania.
    • As mentioned previously, The Iiconics ruined a match between Charlotte & Asuka.
    • We still have Carmella trying to cash in, but Mella takes a kick to head by Asuka.
    • Carmella announces the next week on Smackdown that she wants to do more than just cash in and win the Smackdown Women’s Championship. She wants to end Asuka’s winning streak and she’ll do it at Backlash.
  • Asuka wins with an Asuka lock, but Carmella does a lot better than anyone thought.

Jinder Mihal v Tye Dillinger (C) (US Championship)

  • This is simple. Tye won the United Championship in a fatal 4 way. Jinder did not get pinned and feels he is owed a proper one on one match with no excuses.
  • Another reason Adam chooses to have this match is to continue the popularity of Dillinger going up against a heel who always received boos.
  • Tye Dillinger wins clean.

Woken Hardy’s with Bray Wyatt v The Revival (C) (Raw Tag Team Championship)

  • The Broken/Woken gimmick was never given a proper attempt in WWE.
  • This time Jeff returns the Raw after mania in the Brother Nero persona also accompanied by a Woken version of Bray Wyatt – which is very much like his current persona just without Fiend Tendencies.
  • As for the Revival, they retained their Raw Tag Team Champions against The Bar in an absolute classic.
  • The Revival win this match by using their ability to isolate Jeff Hardy and just pick him apart.

Samoa Joe v Roman Reigns (C) Universal

  • Joe has retired the beast, Brock, at Wrestlemania.
  • Now – he’s squashing blokes left and right even using an F5 and a Kamura lock to finish off matches.
  • As for Roman, he has finally been given the torch after retaining his Universal Championship at Wrestlemania over John Cena.
  • Both men feel it’s out with the old and in with the new, but the difference is that Roman believes Joe is an indie darling who is lucky to be in WWE. Joe accuses Roman of being the cooperate, golden boy.
  • Samoa Joe wins after Roman passes out in a coquina clutch.
  • Since Roman didn’t tap out or submit, Roman is still the Universal Champion. – Adam’s rule.

Baron Corbin v Shinsuke Nakamura (C) v AJ Styles WWE Championship

  • This match came about by AJ losing clean at Wrestlemania and by Corbin failing to retain his WWE Championship at Fastlane in his match with AJ Styles. Shinsuke aided AJ in his victory over Corbin.
  • During the discussion between Corbin and AJ, Shinsuke comes out hits a kinshasa on both and says I’ll take you both on.
  • Nakamura retains after hitting consecutive kinshasas on AJ and then Corbin. Nakamura pinsCorbin for the victory.
