This week’s newsletter was just too big for one topic.

So I hope you’ll indulge me as I tell you about three things I’m loving in the world of Pro Wrestling this week.

Feel free to reply and let me know what’s on your mind as pertains to pro wrestling.

Mick Foley on Foley is Pod

Mick Foley
I love listening to Mick Foley tell stories.

I caught the second episode of his new “Foley is Pod” podcast with Conrad Thompson on YouTube earlier this week.

Most of the stories were recycled ones that I’ve heard before, but Foley is someone that I could listen to for hours.

It’s a three hour show, but definitely worth your time if you’re looking for something fun to put on in the background.

Forbidden Door Graphic

Forbidden Door
I love New Japan Pro Wrestling, but I only started watching in the Summer of 2018. With Kenny Omega leading the way as IWGP Heavyweight Champion, I thought the company was white hot.

It has definitely lost steam since 2018, but I still think it’s the number one non-US based company in the world. Just my opinion.

I have high hopes for the combined AEW – New Japan Forbidden Door show this weekend, but I’m tempering expectations.

AEW has been absolutely plagued by injuries of late, and this PPV really seems to be suffering as a result.

I hoped this collaboration would stir up interest, but in many ways I think it has done the opposite. The die hard AEW fans don’t know the New Japan stars, and AEW hasn’t done a superb job in introducing them.

That could be why the ratings for both Dynamite and Rampage dropped so sharply last week. The best case scenario would be that the drop was an anomaly, and ratings will rebound for this week’s go home shows.

If you’re still on the fence regarding this show, I would encourage you to check it out. I believe the wrestling will be exceptional.

Let me know what you think after watching it.

Jessie Elaban on CCW Insider

Jessica Elaban – (FKA Jessi Kamea)
In keeping with my theme from last week, I want to tell you about someone else in pro wrestling that truly deserves your attention.

I had the privilege of speaking with Jessica Elaban last week for about 20 minutes.

You’ll remember Jessie from her days as Jessi Kamea on NXT.

The main take-a-way from my interview: If she’s not kicking someone’s butt in the ring, then she’s trying to help someone outside the ring.

Jessie is currently competing to be the 2022 Maxim Covergirl. If she wins that competition and is bestowed that honor, she will use the proceeds toward a fundraiser for to help kids that can’t afford art supplies.

If you want to listen to my interview with Jessie Elaban, here’s a link. You can also access the show through some of the links below.

Thanks,

Ryan
