WWE certainly appears to be dominating the news cycle these days. The NBC Universal Peacock streaming deal that you can read about in the WWE News section further expands WWE’s profitability. While everyone else is wondering about the mechanics of the deal, I’m pondering what they’ll do with all the extra profitability. The options are endless: buy up smaller companies and their tape libraries, recruit new talent, higher celebrity talent (The Rock, Lesnar, Rousey, and others). The kind of money that WWE is pulling in with Television rights and now streaming rights has put them in an incredible position of power in the market. I can’t wait to see where WWE invests the capital. The Royal Rumble is this weekend, and I’m excited that I can’t really predict a winner!

Body Slam Clothes Update

Last week, I announce that Body Slam Clothes was launching with our first shirt, The Clothesline. I’m proud to announce that we have four new shirts in the catalog. All of them are again inspired by wrestling moves: The Gorilla Press Slam, The Crucifix, The Dropkick, and The Chairshot. All shirts are $20 and available right now. If anyone would like package pricing on the entire pack of five shirts, contact me ([email protected]) for a deal.

This collection is going to get big as I onboard more designs and shirts.

Have a Great Weekend!

WWE Network Exclusively Distributed by Peacock in the U.S.

  • WWE announced a new deal where they have sold the exclusive U.S. distribution rights of the WWE Network to the Peacock streaming service. Peacock will now have the entire past, present, and future WWE catalogue for the duration of the deal with Peacock.
  • U.S. subscribers now have the opportunity to get their subscription for $4.99 with ads or $9.99 without ads. Some people will even get free access if they live in a home using Comcast or Cox cable.
  • The start date for this deal is March 18 when all current WWE Network subscribers will be ported over to Peacock.
  • From a financial perspective, this deal is great for WWE. Various reports are valuing the deal at 1 Billion Dollars for 4 years. That’s a lot more than WWE currently makes selling subscriptions themselves. It is also guaranteed, so they can worry less about spikes and dips in their subscription numbers.
  • From Peacock’s point of view, they’re very late to the subscription game. It gives them exclusive content and over a million new subscribers on Day 1. In theory, the new subscriber base should be happy considering they’ll be getting a lot more content for the same or lesser money. Peacock will hope to see advertisements that air during the heavily watched WWE content. That will be how they make back their investment.
  • It’s unclear how well searching for wrestlers will work within Peacock nor do we know if the shows will have segments like they do today that allow you to skip to a particular match on the card.
