CCW Alive Results
It’s the big one from Bash at the Brew XI. It’s the second reign as CCW World Heavyweight Champion for Cha Cha Charlie, as he defeated El Jefe Santos for the belt. It’s the two most-tenured superstars in all of Coastal Championship Wrestling. It’s a match CCW fans – and wrestling fans everywhere – are still talking about. And it’s featured on this week’s episode of CCW Alive Wrestling.
Cha Cha Charlie def. El Jefe Santos – CCW World Heavyweight Championship
This matchup was weeks and months in the making. Cha Cha Charlie has been chasing El Jefe Santos and that elusive second title reign for months. At Bash at the Brew XI at Unbranded Brewing Company in Hialeah, Fla., Cha Cha finally got that opportunity … and boy did he take advantage of it.
This match was clearly personal for both men and the action spilled to the outside early on. The challenger took advantage. With Santos draped over the guardrail, Cha Cha delivered a nasty legdrop to the back of the champion’s head, drawing a “Holy Sh!t” chant from the raucous, sellout crowd at Unbranded Brewing Company.
Miraculously, once the combatants were back in the ring, Santos was able to gain control of his opponent and score his first high-impact offense and near fall. Santos worked over the midsection of Cha Cha, looking to set him up for his nasty finishing maneuver, the Angel Dust popup gutbuster.
Santos nearly secured the victory without his signature move, rolling Cha Cha up in the corner and putting his feet on the ropes for leverage. But senior official Bruce Owens, with his decades of experience, caught it at the last second and didn’t count the pinfall.
While Owens was in the right place at the right time for that call, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time moments later. Charlie went for a splash in the corner, but Santos saw it coming, leaving CCW’s top referee in the corner to take the full force of Charlie’s body weight. As Santos put Charlie on his shoulders for the Angel Dust Gutbuster, the challenger slipped out the back door. Cha Cha scored a vicious backstabber on the champion and had him covered as the crowd counted to three and even to six. But Owens was in a heap on the mat and the match continued.
Santos’ strategy of softening Charlie up for the gutbuster nearly paid off. He finally hit the maneuver, but Owens was still dazed on the canvas. Another official raced to the ring to count the pinfall, but somehow Cha Cha kicked out at the last possible moment.
With Santos beside himself and a new official in the ring, Charlie saw his opportunity. A Death Valley driver followed by Charlie’s signature Mangu Splash should have resulted in a new champion. But the ever-present Lew Spector pulled referee Adrian Paz out of the ring before his hand could hit the mat for the three-count.
With one official outside the ring engaged with Spector and the other still dazed on the canvas, Cha Cha once again had an opportunity. Once again, the Death Valley driver, Mangu Splash combination were successful for the challenger. As he went for the cover, Owens had just enough of his wits about him to count the pinfall.
“Here is your winner … and new CCW World Heavyweight Champion … Cha Cha Charlie!”
The capacity crowd at Unbranded Brewing Company went nuts and a raucous celebration ensued with Charlie and his adoring fans.
But the celebration was somewhat short-lived. The Maker of Nightmares Agony and his anger-management counselor Dr. Eric Christopher showed up at ringside. It looked as though Agony would step through the ropes and take out the new champion. But Cha Cha shoved him to the outside and continued his celebration.
Agony, himself a former CCW World Heavyweight Champion, will face off with Cha Cha Charlie for the CCW Championship at Bash at the Brew 13 this Saturday (Feb. 5) at Unbranded Brewing Company in Hialeah, Fla.
