July 16th Smackdown

WWE SmackDown RECAP – July 16, 2021

*Mr. McMahon out in front of the ‘tron to thunderous applause & a “No Chance in Hell” sing-along…he addresses the crowd, “Where the hell have you been?”…be smiles, bows, waives, & heads backstage.

*Mysterios vs. Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship is announced for the Money in the Bank Kickoff Show.

(1)  Roman/Jimmy/Jey defeat Edge/Rey/Dom…Edge stares a hole in Roman as the latter sashays around the outside of the ring…Jimmy attacks Edge from behind before the bell…Roman powerbombs Dom on the announce desk…Rey with a rollup on Jey…as Jey kicks out & sends Rey to the ropes, Jimmy blasts Rey from outside…Jey rolls Rey up & grabs a handful of tights for the win (09:24)…AFTER…Jey attacks Rey, Usos/Mysterios brawl…Edge clears both Usos with chair shots…Roman delivers a Superman Punch…Edge recovers while Roman is removing the support bar from the chair…Roman turns around into a Spear from Edge, who then locks in the steel bar crossface…Edge holds the Universal title over his head (tsk, tsk) before laying it across the downed Roman’s chest.

*Edge backstage with Kayla…he knows he has to be a selfish, manipulative S-O-B to beat Roman at his own game…Seth Rollins cackling nearby…tells Edge that Roman has his number, even though Seth will be Edge’s biggest fan Sunday so he can finally “finish what I started 7 years ago” after he wins the MitB match.

*Sami Zayn to the ring…tonight he expects to have the fans on his side, who he knows have seen the conspiracy unfold…the fans don’t immediately rally behind him, so he decides he doesn’t need them, he needs justice…Finn Balor interrupts…Sami tries to attack…Finn avoids, delivers a Coup de Grâce.

(2)  Shotzi/Nox defeat Natty/Tamina…Liv Morgan & Zelina join commentary & have nothing nice to say to one another…within 3 minutes they are brawling at ringside…Liv rolls into & out of the ring quickly to escape Zelina…the distraction allows Nox to Roll Up Natty for the win (03:22)…AFTER…Natty/Tamina take out their frustration on Liv/Zelina…Liv & Natty wind up in the ring…Liv hits a Code Breaker on Natty & points triumphantly to the briefcase hanging above the ring.

(3)  Bianca Belair defeats Carmella…to retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship…Bianca with the hair whip to Carmella’s chest, Kiss of Death for the win (11:01).

*Alpha Academy backstage…they smell fear in the locker room…Cesaro interrupts, he smells bull…Otis attacks Cesaro with gut punches.

(4)  Cesaro defeats Otis by DQ…Cesaro sends Otis into the post…Chad Gable delivers a German Suplex for the disqualification (01:05)…AFTER…Gable goes for a Swing…Otis puts a stop to that & delivers a Vader Bomb to Cesaro.

*Heyman backstage with Kayla…Edge will pay for his sins against the Tribal Chief…Big E.interrupts…he would be worried about Edge if he was Heyman!

*Baron Corbin to the ring, looking disheveled…he is in financial ruin…he has started a CORBINfundme page for donations from the WWE Universe…gets on his knees to beg the crowd…Kevin Owens interrupts…Corbin assumes KO is there to help…Owens “helps” Corbin with a STUNNER!

(5)  Seth Rollins defeats Big E./Kevin Owens/Kingsuke Nakamura…in a FATAL 4-WAY…KO delivers an elbow drop to Nakamura from a 10 foot ladder at ringside, through the announce table…Rollins Stomps Big E.’s face into a ladder in the ring for the win (08:02)…AFTER…Rollins climbs another ladder, retrieves the MitB briefcase, & celebrates as the show ends.
