July 2nd New Japan Cup Results
Results for the July 2nd New Japan Cup will be posted during the show (6AM Eastern on 7/1).
Match Announcement
Bushi, Naito, Takagi vs. Sho, Goto, Uemura
Hiromu Takahashi defeats Tomohiro Ishii – 19:29
- There were a lot of false finishes starting around 12 minutes including Ishii kicking out after Takahashi hit the Time Bomb.
- Eventually Takahashi hit a face first brain buster, which is effectively a Jon Moxley style DDT, and another time bomb for the pinfall victory.
Evil defeats Yoshi Hashi – 1:59
- Evil attacked Yoshi-Hashi before the bell and hit him with multiple chair shots. This is the second day in a row someone from LIJ jumped Yoshi Hashi before the bell. This time, the referee allowed Yoshi-Hashi to get his gear off before ringing the bell.
- After Evil held Yoshi-Hashi in a sharp shooter without Yoshi-Hashi fighting back, the referee called for the bell. This is the first squash match that I’ve seen in New Japan.
Bushi, Naito, Takagi defeat Sho, Goto, Uemura – 09:34
- Bushi used a code breaker to get the pinfall victory over Yuya Uemura.
- After the match, Shingo and Sho stared each other down. Takagi seemed to ask Sho which belt he wanted. Reminder that Sho defeated Takagi in the opening round of the New Japan Cup, so he should get a NEVER Championship match.
Kazuchika Okada defeats Taiji Ishimori – 16:54
- Taiji Ishimori submitted to Okada’s sleeper hold
Sanada defeats Taichi – 22:42
- Taichi was tapping to Skull End, but Kanemaru jumped up on the apron to distract Red Shoes from making the call.
- Kanemaru would continue to get involved, but Sanada eventually won with an O’Conner Roll and a bridge.
