AEW DYNAMITE ROAD RAGER RECAP – July 7, 2021

(1)  Cody Rhodes defeats QT Marshall…in a SOUTH BEACH STRAP MATCH…Cody hits 3 consecutive Cross Rhodes & touches all 4 corners for the win (10:39).

*Shawn Spears backstage talking about his interference in last week’s Sammy/MJF match when Sammy Guevara hits him with a chair from off camera…Sammy takes a seat next to the fallen Spears, “Gotcha, bitch!  This is far, far from over.”

*Schiavone in ring, introduces Kenny Omega…Don Callis takes the mic, “There’s no one left for Kenny to beat”…Evil Uno interrupts, “Why are you ignoring this crowd (they’re chanting “Cowboy Shit…We want Hangman”) & why are you so afraid of my friend?”…Kenny kicks Uno in the yambag…Dark Order & Good Brothers brawl on the stage…Hangman’s music hits & Kenny looks terrified…Hangman clears the ring of everyone but Kenny, they lock eyes, exchange words off mic…Anderson gets Hangman’s attention just long enough for Kenny to bail.

*JR sits down with Darby & Ethan Page at the same time…Darby says Page is jealous that Darby made it to AEW first…Page says Darby would still be making peanuts if his wars with Page hadn’t “made” Darby…Coffin Match set for next week!

(2)  FTR/Wardlow defeat Santana/Ortiz/Hager…Tully distracts the ref, FTR hit the Big Rig on Hager…Wardlow covers Hager for the win (08:58)…AFTER…Konnan hits Wardlow with the “madball”…Wardlow no-sells the shot…Tully chop blocks Konnan.

*Karl Anderson pre-tapes promo…the fact the Jon Moxley has the IWGP US Championship makes him sick…Anderson challenges Moxley for title shot next week.

*MJF/Jericho in-ring face-to-face…magical mic work by both (& the fans)…MJF turns Jericho’s plan for Moxley back in the day against him…“The 5 Labors of Jericho”…4 opponents of MJF’s choosing…then the match with MJF…Jericho accepts…MJF insists they shake on it…Jericho doesn’t let go, uses it to deliver a Judas Effect.

*Britt Baker backstage with Schiavone…she’s very unhappy with Tony Khan for giving Vicky that match just to get Andrade signed…oh, and Nyla is never getting her hands on the title.

*Christian Cage/Matt Hardy history package…23 years in the making…Fyter Fest, Night 1 they settle this!

*Arn Anderson in the ring with Schiavone…he welcomes the fans back…LIGHTS OUT…LIGHTS ON…Malakai Black (fka Tommy End/Aleister Black) is in the ring…Black Mass on Double A…Cody gets in the ring, he gets one too!

*Ricky Starks footage from earlier in the day, cutting an in-ring promo on Brian Cage while surrounded by his own security…Taz is pissed, this is an embarrassment…Brian Cage to the ring…Starks bails…Cage destroys the security team.

(4)  Orange Cassidy/Kris Statlender defeat Blade/Bunny…Cassidy tips the ref who finds the brass knux on Blade before the bell & takes possession of them…eventually Bunny produces another set of knux & Blade KO’s Cassidy, but Statlander is legal…while Blade argues, Statlander shoves Bunny into Blade…Big Bang Theory for the win (08:29).

*Jungle Boy received a trophy commemorating his 50^th win in AEW.

*Schiavone ringside with Dan Lambert (& Jorge Masividal, Amanda Nunez) of American Top Team…Lambert takes the mic & cuts a great heel promo…AEW sucks…wrestling has gone downhill since the late 90’s…this product is unwatchable…Lance Archer to the ring, delivers a Blackout to Mr. Lambert!

(5)  Young Bucks defeat Eddie Kingston/Penta…in a STREET FIGHT to retain the AEW Tag Team Championship…Young Bucks have shaved their porno mustaches, but this week are sporting cut-off jean shorts…Kingston has Matt in an RNC, Nick hits a 450 splash on the ref just before Matt taps…Good Brothers attack Eddie…Cutler with the freeze spray, Kazarian pulls him off the apron & powerbombs Cutler through a ringside table…Penta hits Fear Factor on Matt, Matt pops up into Kingston’s spinning backfist…could have counted to about 7, but no ref…new ref finally appears, Matt still down…Nick pulls the ref out before he can count 3…Kingston introduces tacks…soon after Kingston gets tacks stuffed in his mouth by Nick & superkicked by Matt…Matt covers Kingston for the win (14:17).
