What Title Appeared Just Once at SummerSlam?

There’s actually more than one answer to that question, but we’ll focus this episode on just one of those titles and I’ll tell you the other at the end. 

You may have already guessed that we’re going back a few years for this episode. 

2001 was a strange year in wrestling. 

Vince McMahon bought the biggest rival to his wrestling empire when in March of 01 just a couple of weeks before WrestleMania 17 – an event that is largely considered to be one of the greatest WrestleMania’s of all time. 

Dave Melter called WrestleMania 17 “the culmination of the wrestling boom” and the “greatest major show the World Wrestling Federation ever produced.”

So as great as WrestleMania 17 was, it was simply too close to the WCW purchase for much of a WWF v. WCW storyline to develop. 

That would of course play out over the next several months. . .and the feud would never include the major WCW stars. 

But the feud did include the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and by the time we got to SummerSlam. . .  that WCW World Heavyweight Championship would main event WWE’s second biggest show of the year.
