What’s the Story of the Photo That Got Cody Choked Up?

Cody Rhodes returned to the WWE earlier this year as the surprise opponent of Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 38 in Arlington, Texas.  Had it not been for the match 2 segments later where Stone Cold Steve Austin not only made an appearance, but actually wrestled for the 1st time in 19 years…the 21+ minute banger by Rollins & Rhodes would have been the biggest topic in the wrestling world the next day.

The following Monday, Raw was live from Dallas, TX.  And while some will always remember April 4, 2022 as the night Veer Mahaan finally arrived & decimated the Mysterios…the opening segment was also one to remember.

Cody Rhodes returned to Raw for the first time in nearly 6 years to not quite a hero’s welcome…but maybe more of a Prodigal Son’s “welcome home.”

He made it to the ring & soaked up the adulation & “Welcome Back” chants, then proceeded to get choked up as he poured his heart out for nearly 8 minutes.    

On the ‘tron, Cody shared the picture that sat on his family’s mantle for as long as he could remember with the Texas crowd.  It was a picture of Dear Old Daddy Dusty, holding the WWWF title.  Cody also shared the poignant story that accompanied it.

But Dusty was never WWF champion, so what’s the story of this photo?
