Back in 1983, Vince McMahon took over the WWF from his father.

Vince needed to get the WWF Championship off babyface champion Bob Backlund and onto Vince’s new Golden Goose Hulk Hogan!

The Iron Sheik was the transitional champion to get the title from one babyface to another.

Years later. Long after the 1500 day Hulk Hogan title run, Bret Hart won the WWF Championship at WrestleMania X and wrestled a legendary feud with his brother Owen for most of 1994.

But Bret lost his WWF Championship on this day in 1994.

Not to his brother Owen (although Owen played a role).

There’s a lot of symmetry to the 1983 Bob Backlund story and the 1994 Bret Hart story.
