Minutes to Bell Time

26. Who was the Black Scorpion?

Who was the Black Scorpion?

Well that’s a loaded question . . . and if you didn’t live through it . . . you might not know.

Let’s set the table.

July 7, 1990 – The Great American Bash from the historic Baltimore Arena.

That arena by the way is historic for many reasons.

We’re going to talk about one of those reasons right now.

If you look up and down the Great American Bash card, it’s a whose who of late 80’s royalty.

The Steiners, The Rock and Roll Express, Vader, Lex Luger,  Harley Race, Ron Simmons and of course . . .

The NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair defending his title against current AEW wrestler STING!

Sting won his first world title from Flair on that July night in 1990.

It was meant to be a passing of the torch. Flair was a six time champion (just one championship reign shy of catching Harley Race).

Sting was young and popular and his only problem was going to be having to follow one of the all time greats.

So what character dogged Sting’s first title reign. . . well it was a masked man calling himself the Black Scorpion.

Who’s under the hood? Well now. . .that’s the big question. . . and the topic we’re discussing on today’s episode of the Daily Wrestling News Show.
