Following Sting attacking referee Charles Robinson at Halloween Havoc, JJ Dillon stripped Sting of the World Championship.
A 32 person tournament was held to crown a new champion with the final four advancing to WCW Mayhem on this day in 1999.
The final four were Chris Benoit, Jeff Jarrett, Bret Hart, and Sting.
