PWA Back in Black Label Preview

“PWA Back in Black Label Preview” comes from Contributor “Alcoholic” Adam Pokrajac. Pokrajac routinely provides the cold hard truth on Australian Wrestling with a heavy focus on New South Wales. He believes this is the most under appreciated wrestling scene in the world today and he reviews it with a beer in his hand.

Your favourite Alcoholic Adam breaks down PWA’s Back in Black Label event that takes place on 12th of February at 4AM Eastern Time (8PM Local Time in Australia). To watch the event head over to FITE TV play where you can catch the action live.

The Card

Matty Wahlberg & Ricky South Open Challenge

  • These two gentlemen have bestowed themselves as the benchmark of PWA and represent PWA proudly. They want to show why PWA has the best talent in the world.
  • It would make the most sense to have actual tag teams that haven’t made their PWA debut or some top stars in anther promotions.
  • Some of the first names that come to mind are:
    • Tommy Knight and Rat Daddy: these two have both wrestled in PWA leaving a lasting impression with huge a demand for their return before COVID. They are the top guys in Wrestle Rampage
    • Mitchy Waterman & Nick Bury – the Brat Pack: these boys have told Alcoholic Adam first hand how much they crave a match at PWA and in Adam’s opinion they are long overdue for a match
    • Pre Historic Death Cult Caveman Ugg(C) & Syd Parker
      • Wahlberg & Ricky are both dying to get their hands of PWA Heavyweight Champion Ugg, but Ugg may want some backup and could have his former tag team partner watching his Back

Adam’s prediction: Daddy & Tommy Knight answer the challenge but Ricky and Wahlberg have too much of a home field advantage to pick up the win

Rhys Angel in Action

  • Not much to be said except for speculating who could be his opponent.
  • Some Potential opponents could be
    • Shazza McKenzie tried to get back in the tag division to reunite the Choc Blockers with Big Fudge. Fudge wants no part of it. Shazza might see this as an opportunity to get on the card.
    • Aaron Jake might just answer the call himself to teach Rhys a lesson for turning his back on him.
    • Unsocial Jordan came so close to progressing in the PWA Premier. He could see this an opportunity to take out his frustrations on Rhys.

Adam’s prediction: Shazza will face Rhys. Rhys wins because Nikki Van Blair causes a distraction. Post-Match Shazza will get really upset as we saw at the last show and in the promo with Fudge. Fudge will agree to team up with her to take own Rhys and Nikki next show

Sam Osborne v Steph De Lander

  • Last time these competitors faced off it was PWA’s first show without fans. It was very special in a match that Osborne won.
  • Both have changed a lot since then.
  • Osborne has the backing of Don Marnell. Same is a changed man being a lot more cutthroat and direct with his actions as seen in the PWA Premiership where he comes so close from topping his block and going to the final.
  • Steph has become more desperate. The PWA title slipped through her hands on two occasions. A loss here could really set her back.

Adam’s prediction: Sam wins and post-match Don Marnell recruits Steph.

MK Plus Ultra Kai Drake & Michael Spencer v The Velocities Jude “The Dude” London & Paris De Silva (C) (PWA Tag Team Championship) Ladder

  • Drake & Spencer have been torturing the Velocities for well over a year stealing the Velocities own titles and taking them everywhere claiming to be the real champs
  • Only recently the Velocities cut the nice guy bull shit waiting and just destroyed  MK Plus ultra with chairs to get the titles back.
  • In a ladder match, there is a high likelihood you will crash and burn, which The Velocities thrive off with their high-flying nature.

Adam’s prediction: In a complete toss of a coin, The Velocities will win.

Robbie Eagles v Jessica Troy (C) (PWWA Championship)

  • If we are being honest with ourselves, this is the dream match that everyone has been clamoring to see. Eagles and Troy are arguably the top wrestlers in the country.
  • This match was meant to happen, but due to COVID, we never got it. Add Covid to Robbie’s New Japan commitments, and they just keep on missing each other.

Adam’s prediction: In an early match of the year contender, Robbie will just be another arm Collected by Jess. Robbie taps out like many other to Jess’s Fujiwara Armbar.

Kingsley v Jack J Bonza (Red Nation)

  • This all started when Kingsleys decided to be a part of Generation Now, which in theory is a slap in the face to her Uncle Jack. Kingsley first started as a flag bearer for Bonza.
  • Many little things have been leading to this point. Kingsley flopped in the premiership.
  • Kingsley being the apple of her Uncle Jack eye not seeing her do anything wrong until the alignment with Generation Now.
  • There is also a stipulation where if Kingsleys wins, she will become the leader of the red Nation, but if she losses she is out of the Red Nation.

Adam’s predation: Bonza wins, but Kingsley goes a lot better than anybody expected. Kingsley gains acceptance and respect as a performer, so Bonza doesn’t have the heart to kick her out.

Jimmy Townsend v William Preston

  • If you haven’t seen the story, this has been brewing ever since Will graduated from  University while Jimmy was forced to repeat. From that point, there was always tension brewing.
  • The boys were never on the same page costing each other matches. Cherry got involved, but unintentionally made things worse for the 2.
  • Finally Jimmy rolled up William for the 1,2,3 with a schoolboy, which pushed the issue over the edge.
  • Leading to this cinematic match at the Playground where the amazing team follows them until there is a winner.

Adam’s prediction: Jimmy wins because he is more familiar with the schoolyard antics.

Mick Moretti v Lyrebird Luchi (PWA Premiership)

  • The final of the PWA premiership where both men came out on top of their blocks.
  • No question about both men deserving to be here but the question of who will prevail?
  • Mick has a massive advantage in his favour because he knows what it takes to finish strong.

Adam’s prediction: Wahlberg will be the difference. Craving to meet Moretti in the final, Wahlberg took his eye off the ball and didn’t win his block. Wahlberg will create an opening, which Luchi will capitalize on to win the PWA Premiership.
