Tom Phillips and Sam Roberts on Commentary

Velveteen Dream defeats Bobby Fish

Dream caught a super kick on Bobby Fish. When Dream climbed to the top rope, Fish rolled to the outside, so Dream came off the top with a double axe handle. Fish rolled back in the ring and then right back out, so he could send Velveteen Dream into the barricade as NXT went to commercial.

Back from commercial, Bobby Fish maintained an advantage hitting a dragon screw leg whip. Fish focused his offense on the leg of Dream with strikes and a slingshot senton on top of Dream’s leg. NXT went to commercial again. Back from commercial, Bobby Fish had an ankle lock submission cinched in. Fish only broke when Dream struggled to the ropes. Out of desperation, Velveteen Dream hit a Dream Valley Driver for the pinfall victory.

Kushida and Wilde began by wrestling on the mat with Kushida getting the clear upper hand. Joaquin Wilde had a short advantage, but Kushida hit his cartwheel basement dropkick to send NXT to commercial. Back from commercial, Wilde had the advantage. When Wilde tried to leap frog Kushida in the corner, Kushida caught him kicked Wilde in the wrist.

Keith Lee defeats Dominik Dijakovic and Damian Priest

The match began with a striking battle. When all connected with a quick kick, NXT went directly to commercial. Back from commercial, Dijakovic and Priest were in the ring with Lee on the outside. Damian Priest blocked a deadlift superplex attempt by Keith Lee and Dijakovic pulled Lee off the ropes into the electric chair position. Priest came off the top with a spinning heel kick to Lee.

Priest and Dijakovic hit a double chokeslam. Damian Priest followed up by tossing Dijakovic from the Razor’s Edge position to the outside and then hit a step up Tope Con Hilo on both men. That sent NXT to commercial.

Back from commercial, Keith Lee power bombed Damian Priest onto Dijakovic three times before hitting Priest with a sit-down powerbomb. Priest took Lee off the middle rope with a hurricanrana, and Dijakovic came off the top rope to hit Lee with an elbow. Dominik Dijakovic came off the top rope with a tornillo for a near fall.

Dijakovic hit Feast Your Eyes on Damian Priest, but Priest had a night stick in his hand. After Dijakovic hit his knee on the night stick, Lee pounced Priest out of the ring and hit Dijakovic with the Big Bang Catastrophe for the pinfall victory.

April 1st Episode of NXT Television Preview

Last Chance Gauntlet Match

The winner advances to the Number 1 Contender’s Ladder Match.

Xia Li (1-0) got attacked before her qualifying match with Aliyah last week. This opened the door for the returning Io Shirai to take her place and advance. Li enters with only one match under her belt for all of 2020, but she did defeat Mia Yim in that match.

Shotzi Blackheart (1-2) has three matches, but totals less than 12 minutes of ring time for the year. She had losing efforts to Shayna Baszler and Chelsea Green, but does hold a victory over Deonna Purrazzo.

Kayden Carter (1-4) hasn’t lasted five minutes in any of her five matches in 2020. That doesn’t bode well for a gauntlet match. Her victory came against Chelsea Green, but Chelsea Green defeated soon after. Carter has also lost to Mia Yim, Candice LeRae, and Asuka.

Similar to Carter, Deonna Purrazzo (0-2)  hasn’t lasted four minutes in either of her two losses on NXT Television. Shotzi Blackheart and Tegan Nox both hold victories in 2020 over Purrazzo.

The heavy favorite for the Last Chance Gauntlet seems to be Dakota Kai (3-2). She holds a victory on February 16th and March 4th against Tegan Nox with another victory on February 12th over Candice LeRae. Both Candice and Tegan previously qualified for the ladder match. She also has losses to Mia Yim and Tegan Nox on January 29th.

The only match Aliyah (0-1) has had on NXT in 2020 was her loss on March 26th to Io Shirai in 1 minute 24 seconds.

Triple Threat North American Championship Match

Keith Lee (5-0) has won 5 straight singles matches against Cameron Grimes, Kona Reeves, Dominic Dijakovic, Roderick Strong for the North American Championship, and a fatal four way match against Damian Priest, Cameron Grimes, and Dominik Dijakovic.

In addition to the two losses against Keith Lee, Dominic Dijakovic (2-3) also has a loss to Cameron Grimes. He picked up victories against Damian Priest and Killian Dain.

Priest enters the match at 0-2 with losses to Dominic Dijakovic and in the fatal four way match discussed above.

Of the three men in this match, Keith Lee is the only one with a winning record.

Bobby Fish vs. Velveteen Dream

Bobby Fish hasn’t wrestled a singles match all year, and his overall record is just 2-5. The Velveteen Dream is 1-1 in 2020 with a victory and a loss to Roderick Strong. Considering Velveteen Dream appears to have an upcoming match with Adam Cole, the momentum certainly makes him the heavy favorite.
