August 29th Summer Struggle
New Japan Results
Check below for the August 29th New Japan Results. They go up live starting at 5:30 AM Eastern.
Notes on the Stadium
- This is an outside show, which is so rare for a major wrestling production. It is the first outdoor event for NJPW in 21 years.
- Because it’s 5PM at the start of the show, it is broad daylight.
- The stadium does look quite empty because of the social distancing measures.
English Commentary Team
- Kevin Kelly is remote in the United Sates. Chris Charlton is live in the stadium.
Yoshinobu Kanemaru defeats Master Wato – 07:33
- Tenzan accompanied Wato to the ring. He has been doing this lately.
- Kanemaru countered Wato’s offense and rolled up Wato for a quick and surprising pinfall.
Yano wins the KOPW Fatal Four Way – 07:02
- Participants Include: Toru Yano, Sanada, Kazuchika Okada, and El Desperado.
- Four way matches are extremely rare in New Japan.
- Okada held El Desperado in the money clip submission. After a ref bump, Yano used a low blow and a cradle to pin Kazuchika Okada.
Minoru Suzuki defeats Shingo Takagi – 14:57
- A lengthy striking battle left Takagi groggy. Suzuki transitioned into the rear naked choke. When he had Takagi just about out, Suzuki connected with the Gotch Style Piledriver for the pinfall victory.
- Minoru Suzuki is the new NEVER OpenWeight Champion.
Taiji Ishimori defeats Hiromu Takahashi – 13:28
- Taiji Ishimori kicked out of Timebomb at the 12:30 mark.
- Ishimori would hit the bloody cross and then cinch in a Yes Lock for the submission victory.
- With this win, Ishimori is the new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.
Dangerous Tekkers defeat Ibushi and Tanahashi – 16:01
- Tanahashi hit the standing high fly flow, but ZSJ moved out of the way when Tanahashi went for the second high fly flow.
- After Taichi hit Black Mephisto on Hiroshi Tanahashi, the Dangerous Tekkers retain the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships.
Tetsuya Naito defeats Evil – 26:20
- Bullet Club interfered a bunch until LIJ eventually came out and dragged all the extra Bullet Club people away from ringside.
- Naito finally hits Destino to win the match by pinfall. He regains both the Intercontinental and Heavyweight Championship
Post Match
- As Naito roll called the members of Los Ingobernables de Japon and posed with the belts, fireworks went off in the background.
