July 3rd New Japan Cup Results
Results for the July 3rd New Japan Cup will be posted during the show (6AM Eastern on 7/3).
Match Announcements
- El Desperado, Taichi, Zack Sabre, and Minor Suzuki vs. Yuji Nagata, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Gabriel Kidd, and Kota Ibushi
- Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi, and Bushi vs. Sho, Tomohiro Ishii, and Hirooki Goto
Desperado, Taichi, ZSJ, Suzuki defeat Nagata, Tanahashi, Kidd, Ibushi – 12:14
- This tag match continues the storyline setting up a tag team title match between the teams of Taichi and Sabre and Tanahashi and Ibushi. It also looks back at the Nagata-Suzuki match from round one of the New Japan Cup.
- In a complete break of tradition, Suzuki Gun did not attack before the bell.
- Desperado got the pinfall victory over Gabriel Kidd after using Pinche Loco
Chaos defeats LIJ – 13:17
- Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi, and Bushi Represent Los Ingobernables de Japon
- Sho, Tomohiro Ishii, and Hirooki Goto Represent Chaos
- This match continues the program between Sho and Shingo Takagi. Sho defeated Shingo in the opening round of the New Japan Cup, so he should get a future NEVER Championship match.
- Sho used a package pile driver to get the pinfall victory over El Desperado
- Shingo Takagi and Sho got into an altercation after the match where Sho officially challenged Shingo to a NEVER championship match.
Grand Master Video Package
- He is revealed to be Master Wato.
- Master Wato comes to the ring, poses, and cuts a short promo.
- Douki attacks him from behind with his stick.
Evil defeats Sanada – 20:13
- They shook hands at the beginning of the match, but the pleasantries only lasted about half a second.
- There was a scary spot 15 minutes in where Sanada attempted to run up the ropes and flip over. Sanada landed right on the top of his head.
- You wouldn’t know that these two guys are tag team partners. When the referee went down, Evil hit Sanada with a low blow. Evil then wrapped a chair around Sanada’s head just to swing at him with another chair. Evil followed up with another low blow.
- Evil finished the match off with Everything is Evil for the pinfall victory.
- This victory puts Evil in the finals to face the winner of the Hiromu Takahashi and Kazuchika Okada match.
Kazuchika Okada defeats Hiromu Takahashi – 26:56
- At 22 minutes, Takahashi hit the rainmaker clothesline on Okada and the Timebomb for a 2 count so close that Red Shoes’ hand actually touched the mat.
- At 25.5 minutes, Okada hit a rainmaker clothesline and cinched in the cravat. He then hit two more rainmaker clotheslines and put the cravat back on.
- Red Shoes called for the bell.
- Okada will now face Evil in the finals of the New Japan Cup.
