WWE SmackDown RECAP – May 14, 2021

*Jey Uso starts the show in the ring…reminds us that Jimmy disrespected the Head of the table, therefore “we have to handle some business”…then introduces the Universal Champion…Roman & Heyman to the ring…extended video package recounting last week’s Anoa’i family issues…first Roman mentions Cesaro…a top talent, nice guy, but not who WWE & Fox want in that important position…moving on…Jimmy Uso interrupts in his new “Nobody’s Bitch” t-shirt, he offers one to Jey when he’s “ready to be on the team”…Jimmy doesn’t think Roman can beat Cesaro, this seems to irk Roman…Roman asks if Jimmy thinks he can beat Cesaro himself, and of course he does…Roman says to prove it…Jimmy offers the challenge…Cesaro makes his way to the ‘tron & accepts.

(1)  Natty/Tamina defeat Nia/Shayna…for the Women’s Tag Team Championship …Nia delivers Samoan Drop to Natty, but Tamina is legal & follows immediately with the Superfly Splash on Nia for the win, NEW CHAMPS! (09:45)…AFTER…Kayla does a brief interview mid-ring…both Natty & Tamina are visibly emotional, thank each other, thank the Universe!

*Apollo in the ring…presents Commander Azeez with Nigerian Medal of Honor…Big E. appears on the ‘tron, reminds Apollo that they’re not done…Sami Zayn interrupts, looking for a title shot…Kevin Owens interrupts, chases Sami into ring, begins brawling with Apollo/Azeez…Big E. joins the melee…Sami gets stunned, KO gets a Big Ending, Azeez saves Apollo & they bail.

(2)  Rey Mysterio defeats Dolph Ziggler…Rey counters a scoop slam into a roll up for the win (13:02)…AFTER…Dom pulls Rey out of the way of a Roode attack

 *Cesaro backstage with Megan…he’s not like Roman who walks around demanding people acknowledge him, he’s confident he will EARN the right for the Universe to acknowledge him as Universal Champion

*Rey & Dom backstage with Kayla…Roode/Ziggler interrupt…Roode tells “Baby Dom” not to bother even getting out of his crib this weekend…Dom, “you can call me whatever you want, but this Sunday you’ll be calling me Baby Champion”   (…weird flex, bro!)

*Bianca in the ring with Cole…Bayley interrupts via ‘tron, “this Sunday I make sure this fairytale reign ends for good”

(3)  King Corbin defeats Shinsuke Nakamura…Shinsuke ties Corbin up in a triangle/armbar combo…Corbin starts to power up for a Rampage Slam but instead decides to stack him up & lean in for the 1-2-3 & the win (03:05)…AFTER…Corbin tosses Nakamura out of the ring…while basking in his win & adjusting his crown, Corbin gets spun around & eats a roundhouse kick followed by a Kinshasa…Nakamura then pantomimes the heavy burden of placing the crown on his own head & does a little dance.

*Apollo in Pearce’s office, demanding consequences for his ceremony being interrupted…instead Pearce (with a subtle suggestion from Sonya) declares that Apollo will face all three next in a Fatal 4-Way against Big E, Sami, & KO…Apollo storms out…Pearce admonishes Sonya to never undermine him in front of the Superstars

*Aleister Black reads “The Lesson” from his favorite book…he could teach us this lesson, but he won’t…he still hates us

(4)  Cesaro defeats Jimmy Uso by DQ…Jimmy & Cesaro battle outside…Cesaro hits running European Uppercut & rolls a wobbly Jimmy back in…Roman attacks as Cesaro attempts to get back in the ring, causing the DQ (09:35)…AFTER…Jimmy & Roman argue up the ramp…Cesaro recovers, attacks Jey in the ring…Roman returns to the ring, drops Cesaro, barks at Jimmy to get in & help…Cesaro uses the distraction to hit Roman with an uppercut, sets him up for the Neutralizer but Jey saves Roman…Cesaro gets the upper hand on Jey, superkicks Jimmy off the apron, Roman bails & heads up the ramp…Cesaro, “this is gonna be you this Sunday” as he delivers the Neutralizer to Jey..that gets minimal reaction from Roman, so Cesaro delivers another, staring down Roman the whole time…Roman smirks & holds up the Universal title as he backpedals up the ramp.
