Minutes to Bell Time

Must See from 2/10 – 2/16

Promotions regularly reviewed include AEW, Impact, MLW NJPW, NWA, NXT, ROH, and WWE. The matches below are listed chronologically.

Must Watch Matches

WWE ran TakeOver from Portland on 2/16 and everything was above average. New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor did not run any shows this week. AEW, MLW, NWA, and WWE all ran their regular programming. While I reviewed the February 9th ROH Free Enterprise show as part of this review, nothing on that show was Must See.

  1. Becky Lynch vs. Asuka – Monday Night Raw 2/10
    • Asuka works so hard and every person she wrestles comes out stronger. This match opened Raw up very strong and Shayna’s appearance was shocking. I think people may have expected to see Shayna show up on Raw, but in the way that she did.
  2. Kenny Omega and Adam Page vs. SCU – AEW Dynamite 2/12
    • I loved this match. When we see the good guys (SCU) break character by taking a cheap shot, it makes us view the match as more important. This match was full of those things.
  3. Nyla Rose vs. Riho – AEW Dynamite 2/12
    • The best Nyla Rose match that I’ve seen. Very good performance by both women.
  4. Johnny Gargano vs. Finn Balor at NXT TakeOver Portland
    • Just a great match by two people that can really work.

Other Items of Interest

  1. Shayna Baszler’s bite on Monday Night Raw. Probably the most controversial moment of the week. Is WWE being hypocritical with the that much blood? Is the Becky Lynch ambulance stealing a bit over the top. You decide? If nothing else, I really appreciated the show having a theme.
  2. Randy Orton and Matt Hardy Interview Segment from Monday Night Raw. Every time we see Matt Hardy on WWE television, it could be the last. If this is the last thing Matt Hardy does in WWE, he did a great service to building the singles match return of Edge. He reminds us of the entire Matt Hardy and Edge history while giving us every reason to hate Randy Orton. apparently the segment did so well, that WWE has Orton vs. Hardy scheduled for the 2/17 episode of Raw.
  3. Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne “How do we get to Portland” skits from NXT. Their personalities couldn’t be more different, and it is hilarious.
  4. With Ricky Starks draw finish against Matt Cross on Monday, he now has two successful NWA Television Title defenses. Once he hits seven, he receives a World Title opportunity.
