Mustafa Ali announced on Sunday that he has requested his release from WWE.
Ali wrote on Twitter, “I have a message that is much bigger than my dreams in pro wrestling. Despite my best efforts, I will not be able to deliver this message while working with WWE. Therefore, I am requesting my release from WWE.”

About an hour after Ali’s please request, Fightful Select reported a disagreement between Vince McMahon and Mustafa Ali regarding Ali’s creative direction. According to Fightful, there was a pivot in direction for Ali where Vince McMahon asked Ali to do “something he would never do.” This led to an argument, and Ali has not been seen backstage since the argument with McMahon.
We won’t know WWE’s position on Mustafa Ali’s release until WWE either brings Ali back to television or releases him.
Ali had one of the most memorable main roster call ups back in December 2018 when he was immediately put in a program with (then) WWE Champion Daniel Bryan. While he lost his first singles match against Bryan, he earned a pinfall over Bryan in a tag match the very next week.
Ali would go on to have a WWE Championship match against Daniel Bryan (and Kevin Owens in a triple threat) in February 2019 at Fastlane. Ali lost that match.
If Ali’s WWE career is officially over, he will leave with a 41-61 singles record and an overall televised record of 70-79.

Almost all of Ali’s merchandise is on sale at WWE Shop right now, but that isn’t out of the ordinary as most of his merchandise is very old.
