Ruby Soho in AEW: The Matches We Want

Ruby Soho in AEW: The Matches We Want

On August 4th, Fightful Select reported, “AEW’s women’s division looks to be getting a shot in the arm in the form of a respected WWE alumni. Fightful has been told that plans call for Ruby Soho, the former Ruby Riott to make her way into the company, according to talent and industry insiders.”

With that in mind, here are 5 great opponents for Ruby Soho as she makes her way into the company.

Big Swole

The idea of Big Swole’s attitude clashing with the alternative punk motif that comes along with Ruby’s image is what attracts me to this pairing. If they don’t succeed as opponents, they would make a great tag team.

Kris Statlander

Kris Statlander has a five inch height advantage over Ruby, but Ruby will have a bit of an experience edge over Kris. Ruby also has some experience working with and against Statlander’s stablemates Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy in Chikara. Those connections may make for some fun backstage interactions. BOOP!

Thunder Rosa and Serena Deeb

WWE crammed Ruby into three minute tag matches where she never had the chance to reach her full potential. After a couple of matches with Thunder Rosa and Serena Deeb, the wrestling industry will have clarity regarding Ruby’s current capabilities and her potential. If Ruby is as good as many people think, then 10 minute matches will Rosa and Deeb will show that to the world.

Hikaru Shida

Cody once referred to Shida as the “Ace of AEW,” and with her year long reign of dominance over the women’s division, it’s hard to argue that point. Prior to her WWE run, Ruby spent time working for Stardom in 2015. Six years have passed, but what tricks of the Joshi style has Ruby held onto? Is this a piece of her experience that we didn’t see in WWE. The simple clash of styles makes this match as interesting as any other on the list.

Conclusion

If Ruby does indeed make it to AEW in the coming weeks, the opportunity for new matches is certainly bountiful. We know WWE left a lot of potential on the table, but we don’t know how much. Does Ruby have the charisma and technical capabilities to work her way through the AEW Women’s division? Could she even make it to the top? Time will tell.

What a great time to be a wrestling fan.
