March 27th Episode of Smackdown Results
Show Opens with a Sasha and Bayley Interview Segment
Bayley reminds us that WrestleMania is “too big for one night” and says “this year’s WrestleMania” is a nightmare. Sasha says it isn’t fair. When Bayley tries to confirm that nothing will come between her and Sasha, Lacey Evans comes out before Sasha can say anything. Lacy plans to break Sasha’s jaw and teach Bayley some manners, but Naomi came out before she could say anything more. Naomi says her and Bayley have some unfinished business, and she’ll be pulling Sasha’s wig off her head. Tamina came out too . . . and she said actions speak louder than words. She took out Naomi and Lacey while Bayley and Sasha just left.
Drew Gulak defeats Shinsuke Nakamura
Sami Zayn joined Michael Cole at commentary. Nakamura immediately took Gulak to the mat and hit him with several strikes. Gulak came flying out of a corner with a dropkick and then started putting the boots to Shinsuke. Cesare pulled Nakamura out of the ring. When Gulak chased him to the outside Nakamura kicked him on the apron and then tossed him into the table. As Nakamura tried to come back in the ring, Gulak got back up and wrenched Nakamura’s leg with a dragon screw.
Nakamura evaded Gulak and connected with a pair of strikes. When Shinsuke went for the Kinshasa, Daniel Bryan pulled Gulak out of the way. Drew Gulak rolled up Shinsuke Nakamura for the pinfall victory.
Match Announcement: Sami Zayn will defend the Intercontinental Championship Against Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania
Recap of Last Week When Ziggler Upset Otis
Backstage Segment with Dolph Ziggler
Dolph was on the phone with Mandy, but Otis interrupted. Ziggler said he wants to fight him at WrestleMania.
Elias Performs a Song for Baron Corbin
Elias stamped Corbin’s face on all his toilet paper. He says Corbin’s throne’s a toilet, and he’s the turd. Baron Corbin then attacked Elias and pushed him off the balcony to the floor. They used a cut away so Elias didn’t have to take the complete fall.
Alexa Bliss defeats Asuka
Nikki Cross joins Michael Cole for commentary. Bliss hit Asuka with several forearm strikes and a dropkick to get the first near fall of the match, but Asuka hit a shoulder tackle taking Bliss off her feat. After Bliss and Asuka mocked each other for a few minutes, Asuka pulled Bliss off the apron and tossed her into the ring apron. As Asuka and Nikki danced back and forth, Smackdown went to commercial.
Back from commercial, Asuka had Alexa in an arm-bar in the middle of the ring. Nikki and Michale Cole chanted “Lexi” in hopes of getting Bliss back in the match. Bliss and Asuka fought on the apron with Asuka having the advantage until Bliss pulled Asuka into an arm wringer and wrenched Asuka down to the mat. Back in the ring, Alexa Bliss really favored her left arm and the pain cost her to miss insult to injury.
After a DDT, Alexa Bliss picked up the pinfall victory.
Backstage with Usos
Where a beef or a truce, the Usos are going to WrestleMania.
Replay of Roman Reigns vs. Triple H from WrestleMania 32
Spoiler alert: I think Reigns will take this match.
Backstage Interview with Triple H
Hunter says that both bring an incredible amount of intensity. Hunter says Goldberg is very intesne for a brief period of time, but Roman’s intensity builds over time. He says Goldberg will win a quick match, but Roman wins if he outlasts the initial burst. Of course, we already know that Roman Reigns will not wrestle at WrestleMania for health reasons. Apparently the WWE is not ready to announce that publicly
Backstage Interview with the New Day
They always have classic matches with the Usos, but Big E says it will hurt them more than it hurts the Uso’s.
Recap of the Bray Wyatt and John Cena Story
Backstage with Dolph Ziggler, Sonya Deville, and Mandy Rose
Mandy asks Dolph why he is doing this. Dolph says after WrestleMania they can leave it all behind them.
Firefly Fun House
Bray is super excited to see us. Bray has the secret recipe to beat John Cena: a scoop of disappointment, a little bit of self loathing, some hot sauce, and a heaping amount of Rage and Resentment. He added Ramblin Rabbit to the blender as he represented irrelevant opinions. Bray says a big star like John Cena should get much more than a regular match. The Fiend officially challenges John Cena to a Firefly Fun House match.
New Day and The Usos Ends in No Contest
Miz and Morrison joined the commentary team. The Usos took the majority of the early part of this match. Its particularly hard to tell the Usos apart today. Big E connected with a pair of overhead belly to belly suplex. Prior to the commercial break, Big E hit a splash on the apron.
When we returned from commercial break, The Usos were double teaming Big E and then hit him with a hip attack. As the Usos attempted to do the hip attack for a second time, Big E grabbed him and hit a ura nage. Kofi Kingston got the tag and hit the boom drop and a hurricanrana before the Usos locked in a single leg crab. Kingston countered out of the crab and it the S.O.S. for a near fall. The Usos evaded a double team move, took Kingston out, and super kicked Big E for a near fall.
As the Usos attempted to suplex Big E off the top rope, Big E pushed the Usos. With the Usos on the outside, Kofi Kingston hit the trust fall. When Kingston pulled Morrison off the table, it turned into a situation where all six men ended up on the floor. Miz and Morrison attacked both teams as the referee called for the bell.
Miz and Morrison now have to face both teams in a Triple Threat Ladder Match. The Usos and New Day then took out Miz and Morrison.
March 27th Episode of Smackdown Preview
Firefly Fun House Returns on the March 27th Episode of Smackdown
Bray Wyatt’s WrestleMania loss to John Cena six years ago apparently sent him into a complete tailspin. The destruction of Bray Wyatt ultimately led to the creation of the Fiend and the Firefly Fun House. What will The Fiend have to say as we approach WrestleMania.
Alexa Bliss vs. Asuka
Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross haven’t shied away from the fact that they want to face the Kabuki Warriors. Having heard Bliss’ challenge, Asuka appeared on the March 13th edition of Smackdown Live tossing Bliss into the ring steps and costing Bliss and Cross a tag team match against Sasha and Bayley. In retaliation, Alexa Bliss put forth the challenge to face Asuka one on one this week. Asuka (1- and Alexa (1-2)Bliss come into this match with losing records. Alexa recorded a singles victory against Sonya Deville, but lost to Mandy Rose and again to Carmella in a fatal four way match. While Asuka has had four major losses in 2020, they have all been in very high profile matches. Her one singles victory came against Natalya, while she lost at Royal Rumble to Becky Lynch and then again in a subsequent rematch. She also got disqualified in a match against Charlotte Flair and lost to Shayna Baszler in the elimination chamber.
Let’s see who takes one step closer to a winning record this Friday.
The Usos vs. The Day – Winner Faces Miz and Morrison for the Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania
The New Day (0-3) remain winless for the calendar year in traditional tag team matches. They lost the Tag Team titles to Miz and Morrison on the February 27th episode of Smackdown. They also lost in two other high profile matches this year with a gauntlet match loss to Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler, an Elimination Chamber match to Miz and Morrison. The Uso’s (3-3) have three wins this year over The Revival, Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler, and Miz and Morrison. They also have a trio of losses sharing the gauntlet match and Elimination chamber losses with the New Day and also losing to King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler.
Drew Gulak vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
These two superstars face each other as a favor to their friends. If Drew Gulak wins, then Daniel Bryan gets an Intercontinental Title shot against Sami Zayn. Drew Gulak enters the match with an 0-2 singles record losing to Daniel Bryan and Otis. Nakamura’s record of 1-1 is hardly any better. Even though he technically won a handicap match teaming with Sami Zayn and Cesaro to defeat Braun Strowman for the Intercontinental Championship, he didn’t walk away with the title. His actual loss came when Braun Strowman defeated him for the Intercontinental Title. This match won’t do much for either wrestler, but Daniel Bryan has the most to gain.
