Cold Open: Sonya and Mandy Prepare for their Match

Recapped Sonya’s Attack Last Week

Sonya Deville defeats Mandy Rose

Mandy came out of the gate with a running knee strike. She pummeled Sonya into the corner until the referee had to break them up. Sonya ducked out of the ring and took the advantage back when Mandy attempted to go after her. Back in the ring, Sonya focused in on the leg of Mandy Rose.

Sonya held Mandy down in a body lock and talked a lot of trash as she pulled off Mandy’s eye lashes. After Sonya released the body lock, Mandy managed to sneak in a clothesline and then action spilled to the outside. Mandy threw Sonya into the steps and then over the announce table.

When they got back in the ring, Sonya cradled Mandy and secured the pinfall victory by hooking the tights.

Forgotten Sons, Miz, Morrison defeat New Day and Lucha House Party

Kofi and Miz begin the match, but things broke down and everyone ended up in the ring. The bad guys rolled to the outside allowing Big E to launch Kofi over the top rope. The Lucha House Party both hit dives before Smackdown went to commercial.

Back from commercial, order was restored. The New Day and the Lucha House Party took turns diving on Blake. Kofi went for a big stinger splash, but Blake moved and Kofi hit the post. Blake tossed Kofi to the outside and hit a suicide dive sending Smackdown to commercial again.

Kofi made the tag to Gran Metalik who ran wild on John Morrison including several spring board maneuvers. After Metalik hit a moonsault and Dorado used a shooting star press, the Forgotten Sons hit the ring. The Miz ended up getting the pin on Lince Dorado after using the skull crushing finale.

Backstage Interview with King Corbin

He’s looking past tonight because nobody will want to team with Gulak and Bryan.

Renee Young Interviews Jeff Hardy

He’s climbed a lot of mountains and swanton bombed off most of them. Sheamus was in the back mocking him. Hardy says he’s surprised that Sheamus hasn’t shown up yet. Sheamus came out, “Who do you think still cares about you?” He says the people are tired of the releases and blown second chances. Sheamus says it’s time for him to put out Jeff Hardy’s flame.

Hardy hit whisper in the wind and twist of fate. He climbed to the top rope and hit the swanton bomb. He won that exchange.

Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt

Strowman says he broke in with the Wyatt Family, but Bray didn’t create him. Bray says he just wanted Braun to say sorry. Wyatt says a good creator always knows his own creations. Bray says you need to come home. I can show you how to be special. He just needs to remove Bray of the burden of the Universal Championship.

Bray offers Braun the sheep mask and the puppets encourage him to come back home. Strowman says, “I am home and I’ve got the universal championship. This Sunday, you’re just going to have your puppets.”

Backstage Drew Gulak and Daniel Bryan Meet Up with Otis

Just checking on Mandy and wanted to know if Otis heard what Corbin said about him.

Tamina and Lacey Evans defeat Sasha Banks and Bayley

Tamina attacked Bayley and Sasha before they could decide which member of the team was going to start the match. Bayley attempted to make a tag to Sasha, but Tamina kept cutting her off. Sasha finally got in the match and went to town on Tamina. It appeared that Sasha and Bayley were going to retreat, but Lacey cut her off. Smackdown went to commercial.

Back from the commercial, Lacey Evans was working over Sasha Banks. Lacey attempted to go for her moonsault, but Bayley distracted her and Sasha recovered. Sasha and Bayley had Evans isolated for the next several moments, but Lacey finally evaded and made the tag to Tamina. With Tamina legal, she tossed Sasha into the barricade and dominated Bayley outside and inside the ring. Tamina climbed to the top rope, but Sasha made the save.

When Tamina came off the top rope, Bayley put her knees up and then hit the Bayley to belly suplex. After the elbow smash, she only got a near fall. Lacey Evans took Sasha out with the Women’s Right. Tamina used a superkick and Samoan drop to pin the Smackdown champion.

Kayla Interviews Dana Brooke and Carmella

Dana says nobody believed she could win her qualifying match. She thinks her chances are as good as anyones. Carmella isn’t going to comment on Mandy and Sonya’s issues.

Cesaro, Nakamura, Corbin defeats Gulak, Bryan, Otis

Gulak hit Cesaro with a Michinoku driver for a near fall. When Gulak went to the top rope, Shinsuke pushed him off the top into an uppercut from Cesaro. Gulak tagged Otis into the match. Otis hit the caterpillar into the elbow drop on Shinsuke Nakamura. Gulak, Bryan, and Otis cleared the ring as Smackdown went to commercial.

Back from the break, the match totally changed with Corbin’s team having Daniel Bryan isolated. Gulak got in the ring and tossed Cesaro around the ring. Gulak had the dragon sleeper on on Corbin, but Nakamura broke it up. Otis got in the ring and made the save.

With Corbin and Gulak left in the ring, Gulak hit a flying clothesline for a two count. Cesaro and Nakamuraa took out Otis and Daniel Bryan. Corbin hit deep six on Drew Gulak for the pinfall victory.

Post Match

King Corbin attempted to hit Drew with the scepter again, but Daniel Bryan made the save. Everyone but Corbin wrestled started fighting to the back. King Corbin was left alone, so he set up a ladder and climbed up to the Money in the Bank contract. Daniel Bryan came back out, but Corbin disposed of him. Otis came back out, and he used the ladder to hit Corbin. Otis attempted to climb the ladder, but two different rungs broke. Corbin tossed Otis into the post.

Daniel Bryan took down King Corbin with a dragon screw. When Bryan attempted to climb the ladder, Corbin pushed him over. Corbin pulled down the contract and stood on top of the ladder with the contract as Smackdown went off the air.

May 1st Episode of Smackdown Preview

WWE has announced four matches for tonight’s episode of Smackdown plus Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman meet face to face ahead of this weekend’s Universal Title Match. This is the last WWE show before Money in the Bank.

Mandy Rose vs. Sonya Deville

Mandy Rose (1-1) has a victory over Alexa Bliss and a loss to Carmella

Sonya Deville (0-1) has a loss to Alexa Bliss.

King Corbin, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Cesaro vs. Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, and a Mystery Partner

Neither pairing has ever teamed before. The real question here is who will Daniel Bryan and Drew Gulak bring to the table.

Tamina and Lacey Evans vs. Sasha Banks and Bayley

This tag match previews the upcoming title match between Tamina and Bayley at this weekend’s Money in the Bank Pay Per View. Lacey Evans will also be involved in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. While Sasha doesn’t have a match at Money in the Bank, the storyline is clearly building to Sasha vs. Bayley at some point down the road.

Tamina and Lacey have never teamed up before. Sasha and Bayley are 2-2 in 2020 tag team matches with victories over Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross and Naomi and Lacey Evans. They lost to Lacey Evans and Naomi and Lacey Evans and Dana Brooke.

Jeff Hardy Returns to Action

It certainly appears like all roads for Jeff Hardy are leading to Sheamus, but he returns to Smackdown tonight without a named opponent. He has a 1-0 record this year defeating King Corbin.

Face to Face Meeting Between Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt

This face to face encounter comes ahead of their big Universal Title match at this weekend’s Money in the Bank Pay Per View. The Fiend has a 2-1 record with victories over Daniel Bryan and John Cena. He lost to  Goldberg in Saudi Arabia. Braun Strowman has a 5-1 record with victories over Goldberg, Cesaro, and Shinsuke Nakamura on January 10, January 31, and April 10. He lost to Sami Zayn in a handicap match on the Elimination Chamber pay per view.
