April 8th Episode of NXT Results

Io Shirai wins the NXT Women’s Ladder Match

LeRae, Yim, and Nox teamed up to take out Dakota Kai in the early part of the match. When NXT returned from commercial, Tegan Nox and Dakota Kai renewed their rivalry. Io Shirai climbed the ladder, but Raquel Gonzalez jumped in the ring and tipped the ladder over. Shirai leaped from the falling ladder and hit a cross body on three of the women standing on the floor. NXT went back to commercial.

Back from the break Raquel Gonzales was working over several of the competitors. Gonzales rolled Dakota Kai and carried her up the ladder, but Yim yanked Gonzales off the ladder and eventually did a sit-down power bomb from the turnbuckle through a table. Dakota Kai then kicked Nox off the turnbuckle through a ladder.

Io Shirai and Candice LeRae scaled the ladder, but Shirai pushed Candice off the ladder and got the briefcase.

Ciampa and Gargano Arrive

Johnny Gargano defeats Tommaso Ciampa

Gargano and Ciampa walk through the door of the empty arena. Triple H is waiting for them, and he says that the match will begin as soon as he walks out the door. Ciampa begins taking apart the ring like they did during a TakeOver match. Before it can be used, they fight out to the parking lot and begin wrestling on top of one of the production trucks.

After 50 minutes, Candice LeRae came in claiming she hated her husband. She kicked him below the belt and left. It appears to have ended the fight as Ciampa was showing him sympathy. Candice came back and kicked Ciampa too. Johnny revealed that he was wearing a cup. Gargano hit Ciampa with a reverse pile driver to secure the pinfall victory.

Candice and Johnny are shown pulling out of the parking lot while the referee deals with Ciampa.

April 8th Episode of NXT Preview

Tonight’s episode of NXT includes just two advertised matches. Johnny Gargano takes on Tomasso Ciampa in their fourth and final match and the women of NXT fight it out in a ladder match to determine the number one contender to the NXT championship.

Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano

Blackheart vs. Rebel Heart – One Last Match. Ciampa’s (1-1) record includes a victory over Austin Theory and a loss to Adam Cole in their NXT Championship match at TakeOver Portland. Johnny Gargano’s interference in Ciampa’s NXT Championship match rekindled the feud that brought us to tonight. Gargano also has a 1-1 record with a loss to Finn Balor and victory over Cameron Grimes. Before this friendship imploded, they had a tag team victory over Moustache Mountain.

Number 1 Contender’s Ladder Match

The winner of this match gets an opportunity to challenge for the NXT Championship currently held by Charlotte Flair.

Dakota Kai (4-2) has wrestled the most 2020 matches of anyone in the ladder match with four victories including last week’s gauntlet match, a win over Candice LeRae, and two matches against Tegan Nox on February 16th and March 4th.  Her losses for the year include Mia Yim and third match against Tegan Nox on January 29th.

Tegan Nox (2-2) has the pair of losses and a victory to Dakota Kai discussed above plus another victory against Deonna Purrazzo.

Io Shirai (1-0) returned from injury to defeat Aliyah two weeks ago.

Mia Yim’s (2-2) .500 record includes the victory over Dakota Kai (listed above) and a second victory over Kayden Carter. Her 2020 defeats came at the hands of Xia Li and Kay Lee Ray.

Chelsea Green’s 2-1 record comes from a win and a loss to Kayden Carter and a second victory over Shotzi Blackheart.

The final competitor, Candice LeRae, has the loss to Dakota Kai above and a victory over Kayden Carter.
