Smackdown Wrestlers with Most Wins

Smackdown Wrestlers with Most Wins

Smackdown Wrestlers with Most Wins

In this Week’s Top 10, I’m looking at the wrestlers from WWE’s Smackdown brand that have accumulated the most singles wins in 2020

I like to look at singles record because it gives us the best indication of who the company is currently pushing and who might get placed in a big program down the road.

By excluding a competitor’s overall record, we removes tag losses designed to protect a star while also giving them a loss.

Some Notes on this Top 10 List:

The data is the data. You can’t negotiate or change the numbers. They are fact.

What we’re able to do though is look for patterns, combine the data with qualitative factors, think about the data in its historical context, and draw some conclusions.

Let’s dive in.

Who on the List is Undefeated?

Being undefeated in singles competition is the clearest sign that the promotion is “pushing” or at least “protecting” a wrestler.

Amazingly, half of the people on this list are undefeated, but surprisingly none of those people rank in the top 4.

Otis

At 5-0, Otis holds the Money in the Bank Contract and takes the number 5 spot. We know he’ll have a title match sometime in the near future, and I expect him to continue racking up more victories and climb higher on this list.

Will WWE pull the trigger and put a singles title on Otis? On one hand, that feels like a far fetched idea. On the other hand, the company is spending a ton of time on him.

Champion or not, Otis is a main event guy right now.

4 Way Tie for Positions 7-10

Elias, Roman Reigns, Jeff Hardy, and John Morrison are all tied at 3-0.

Roman Reigns is no surprise and as soon as he returns to WWE, he’ll be programmed at the top of the card.

Interestingly, Elias and Jeff Hardy both fell out of the Intercontinental Title Tournament . . . without losing a match.

Can I see Jeff Hardy, John Morrison, and Elias main eventing a future Pay Per View? Let’s look at each of them.

John Morrison

Easy answer. Yes because John Morrison challenges Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship at Backlash.

He does this in a handicap match with The Miz as his partner.

While it may seem completely unbelievable that Strowman would drop the title to two people, recent history tells us that it may very well happen.

Braun’s only loss of the year was a handicap match at Elimination Chamber to Sami Zayn, Cesaro, and Shinsuke Nakamura. That loss cost Braun the Intercontinental Championship.

Yes, Backlash feels like a joke. But John Morrison does not.

If Morrison loses at Backlash, it will probably be Miz taking the pin. From my view, this handicap match appears designed to protect Strowman if he loses and Morrison if he loses.

Elias

Sigh. I don’t know. He’s injured and out for several months.

Elias would make an interesting challenger as a one-off on Smackdown. He’s currently wrestling as a babyface, so it doesn’t make sense to feed him to Strowman.

Having said that, Elias flips between heel and babyface as much as the Big Show, so that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

The Drifter doesn’t perform at the highest level in the ring, but fans love his character work. When the shows open up to live audiences, Elias could win a quick number one contender’s match and face the champion on a Smackdown.

He’ll lose to the champion, but hopefully get himself more over in the process.

Jeff Hardy

You can’t destroy Jeff Hardy just like Matt Hardy couldn’t be destroyed. The fans have stayed with Jeff for over 20 years, and they’ll love any possibility of a big Jeff Hardy run.

He’s a believable challenger for any champion in the company.

Assuming Hardy gets through Sheamus at Backlash, he’s probably going to be in the running for the Summer Slam Smackdown main event.

Bayley

An enormously underrated talent, but well protected by WWE. The only woman on the list, and by a fairly wide margin. Lacey Evans would be number 11 on this list with just three wins.
